Following his inability to open his goals account since joining newly promoted Italian Serie A side Cremonese, Italian football expert and lawyer Domenico La Marca has expressed his disappointment in Nigeria international, Cyriel Dessers, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
In a bid to sustain their stay in topflight football, the Italian outfit paid €6.50m to sign the forward from Belgian Pro League side KRC Genk in the summer.
Prior to his move to Cremonese, the Super Eagles forward already bagged three goals from three games for Genk in August to continue his impressive form from 2021/22, where he emerged as the top scorer in last season’s Europa Conference League with 10 goals, outshining AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham.
However, things haven’t gone as planned for the 27-year-old in Italy, after failing to score in seven games in the Serie A.
Dessers has started all of Cremonese’s seven league matches but has been unable to hit target, leaving the Serie A pundit – who saw him shine during his spells in the Netherlands and Belgium – unimpressed with his form in Italy.
In an interview with Area Napoli, La Marca said, “Honestly, I expected more from Cyriel Dessers, a forward I have followed since, who played in Heracles Almelo, who I believe may be the technical leader of a Cremonese who needs his goals.”
Dessers was on target for the Eagles on Friday as they laboured to a 2-2 draw against an Algeria B side in a friendly game.
He will however hope to replicate his form for Cremonese when clubs football resume Oct 1.
