The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the state will not rest on its oars until its goal of making the state free of sexual and gender-based violence is achieved.

Sanwo-Olu said this on Friday during an event at the office of the state Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency in Lagos.

He said, “I congratulate all the awardees who have exemplified excellence and commitment to service. Our policy of zero tolerance on issues of gender-based violence is non-negotiable and we are willing and ready to collaborate with organisations and well-meaning individuals to nip this menace in the bud.

“Let me at this juncture commend and thank the management of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency under the able leadership of the Executive Secretary, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, for supporting this administration to achieve its lofty goal of building a greater Lagos in which sexual and gender-based violence will have no place. We cannot rest on our oars until we achieve our goal of making Lagos free of sexual and gender-based violence.”

The state Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, noted that the government has given priority to adequate reporting and prosecution of reported cases.

“To combat the prevalence of domestic and sexual violence, the state government is giving priority to adequate reporting and concerted effort is being made towards the timely prosecution of reported cases. This will also help survivors receive holistic support, including medical, legal, psychosocial support, and justice,” he said.
