The Peoples Democratic Party youths in Rivers State have passed a vote of no confidence in the South-South vice chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, asking him to immediately step aside for the party to survive in the region.
The PDP youths, under the aegis of the PDP Youth Council in the state, led by its Coordinator, Hon. Onuah Marshall, made the declaration during a press conference and after a signed petition on Monday, October 3, 2022, in Port Harcourt.
The party’s youth council stated that Chief Orbih dragged the party to court, accusing him of being a tool in the hands of some self-anointed godfather in the party to cause chaos and confusion, and to drag the party into disrepute while neglecting the youth council.
They further alleged that the party’s national official was planted by the self-anointed godfather to cause confusion and fight the PDP governors in the South-South which could hamper victory chances for the party in the 2023 general election.
They also alleged that the party’s national official had failed woefully in his task of unifying the party in the South-South, pointing out that he, instead, created confusion and chaos among members who looked up to him for direction.
“We, the youth of the PDP Rivers State, pass vote of no confidence in Chief Dan Orbih. We ask that he should immediately step aside for our great party to survive in South-South.
“We, hereby, call on the leadership of the party to ensure punitive measures and action is taken against Chief Dan Orbih to serve as a deterrent to whoever might want to follow in his footsteps and drag the party in the mud, or serve as a willing tool in the hands of individuals who have sworn to see the party fail in its mission to redeem Nigerians from their current quagmire.
According to the youth council, it was noted that there had been “unconfirmed reports of financial misappropriation of party funds and executive highhandedness (some of which are currently being investigated) by Chief Dan Orbih which has hindered the progress of the party and rendered it incapable of fulfilling its financial obligations and promoted executive rascality.
“Chief Dan Orbih has been fingered in the well documented, albeit, embarrassing debacle of allowances paid to members of the National Working Committee by the party which has seemed to put the party in bad light in the eyes of Nigerians who had hitherto seen the PDP as the only credible alternative to the failure of the All Progressives Congress and had eroded the confidence imposed in the party by Nigerians.”
