Following the devastating effect of flooding which affected many communities in the Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the Speaker of the state Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, has donated N4 million and other relief items to flood victims in his Umaisha/Ugya constituency.

The PUNCH reports that the recent flooding had submerged over seventeen communities in Toto LGA, causing the displacement of many of its residents.

While making the donation on Friday in Umaisha, Balarabe-Abdullahi said the gesture was to cushion the effects of the flooding on his people and to give them a sense of belonging.

He said, “Last two weeks, the State House of Assembly came up with a resolution under matters of public importance, calling on the state government to as a matter of urgency, come to the aid of our people who were ravaged by flood.

“The unfortunate incident did not only happen in Toto Local Government Area but it also happened in Nassarawa, Doma as well as Awe local government areas of the state and in some states of the federation.

“So as a follow-up, I am here today to sympathize with my people who were ravaged by the flood, and to donate N4 million to them for the purchase of food in order to cushion the effect of the flooding.”

The speaker urged the beneficiaries to use the fund and other items donated for the purpose it was meant for and assured them that the state government would soon come to their aid.

“The National Emergency Management Agency has donated relief materials to the state government through the state Emergency Management Agency, and the state government has also purchased its own relief materials for the same purpose, and very soon, the distribution will commence,” he added.

On his part, the Ohimege Opanda, His Royal Majesty, Usman Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the speaker for his good representation at the state assembly and for always coming to the aid of his people.

While appealing to good-spirited individuals in the state to come to the aid of the flood victims, the monarch assured the speaker that the items donated would be judiciously distributed to the flood victims.

One of the flood victims who spoke on behalf of the others, Ibrahim Abdullahi, thanked the speaker for the donation and promised not to misuse the fund and items.
