Super Eagles midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo’s move to Greek Super League side Aris has reached a final stage and could be completed electronically within the next 24 hours as the transfer window closes on September 15 (today), according to a Greek news platform, Pressaris.
“Peter Etebo has agreed on everything with Aris, but the most likely thing is that he will wear the yellow and black kits at the end of September.
“The 26-year-old midfielder should be integrated into the Nigerian national team in the next 24 hours, and at this moment it is considered appropriate that a two-and-a-half-day trip to Thessaloniki will burden him, once the transfer can be formally completed electronically.
“For this reason, it is most likely that the procedures will be completed electronically by tomorrow (today) and the player will travel from England directly to Nigeria.”
Etebo will join the Eagles squad for their friendly against Algeria on September 27 in Oran, and then jet out to join his new teammates in Greece.
“If this is done, Etebo is expected in Thessaloniki on September 28 or 29, days before the restart of the league and the away game against Volos,” a statement from Pressaris read.
Etebo is out of favour at English Championship side, Stoke City, and according to Pressaris, the player and Potters have ended their relationship.
The move to Aris has been delayed due to visa-related issues following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Etebo joined Stoke City in the summer of 2018 following a five-year contract, but he has struggled for regular playing time with the Potters since he returned from a five-month injury layoff.
He has not featured for Stoke since October 2019 and was on loan at Watford for 2021/22, before the Hornets were relegated from the Premier League.
