Be ICT compliant, Lagos govt tells accountants

The Lagos State Accountant-General, Dr Abiodun Muritala, has emphasised the need for accountants under the employ of the state government to be compliant with Information and Communication Technology to increase their work productivity.

According to a statement on Sunday, Muritala stated this during the third quarter technical meeting with Heads/Directors of Finance and Accounts of government’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies in Alausa, Ikeja.

He said, “Finance and account officers are required to display a high level of emotional intelligence in the workplace to effectively relate with one another and work efficiently as a team.

“I must also reiterate the need to be ICT compliant in the 21st century as this development contributes to the growth and improvement of processes and products, in attaining the government’s vision for technology as stated in the THEMES agenda of the present administration.”

The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Mr Abiodun Bamgboye, said, “Emotional intelligence engenders successful interpersonal relationships and lasting reputation and it presents a great listener as opposed to a blank wall.”

A Director in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Wasiu Jimoh, noted some of the benefits of ICT to the accounting profession to include accuracy, speed of processing information, ability to process large volumes of information, reconciliation purposes as well as ease and capacity of information storage.
